Every society has its norms and value system, which may be subject to change or modification according to the requirements of the age. Therefore, the invention of the Internet necessitated a new type of socialization, known as digital socialization, which in turn impacted the social behavior and identity of the digital natives (generations born in the digital age, such as Generation Z and Generation Alpha). The dominance of the Internet and social media platforms has led to a new form of individuals' culture now being digital, rather than the culture of their original community. This has had a profound impact on shaping the identity of each society and has produced generations with similar customs, values, and language. It has also led to serious health and psychological repercussions, such as the phenomenon of "Brain Rot," resulting in a psychological disorder known as "Depressive Hedonia." Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the impact of the digital world on the identity and mental health of the digital natives in light of Pierre Bourdieu's concept of ‘Habitus’ and Mark Fisher's concept of ‘Depressive Hedonia.’ Furthermore, the study attempts to elucidate the relationship between the phenomenon of "brain rot” and depressive hedonia. The novel selected for this purpose is Meatspace (2014) by Nikesh Shukla. The study concluded that the virtual world has become a reality that is difficult to live without, and therefore a balance is required between real-life and digital identities.
